She coldly brushed past Koldiar, making him feel worse because even though he could not control himself, he saw everything that had happened. He wanted to do something to make it right, but when she passed him, the intoxicating scent of lavender seemed to make him feel even worse; he had to do something. He scrambled through his pockets to find anything to help.

“Perfect!” he said to himself after finding a little jar of his “hunting ointment” or, more accurately, a paste made of garlic, mud, and hog spit he calls ointment. He then proceeded in following her like a lost puppy all the way to a small stream. There she planned to wash Fonfon’s “wounds,” so now Koldiar had to form a plan to approach her, but not knowing quite how to approach her, he stayed as far back as possible. He realized he had to say something, anything!

Just do it! he thought to himself, and before it was too late, he said, “I have something…that might help,” cupping his dusty jar of ointment.

“Hmm, you are still here? What part of leave us alone did you not understand? Or do I need to eat you?” Echo said, kneeling at the stream, not even turning back to look at him.

“N-No! I have had enough of that lately. I just want to help, to show that I am sorry,” he said.

“Last time, boy. Leave now,” she repeated.

“Okay, I will leave… But if you want the ointment, it is right here,” he said after placing his jar on a boulder next to her.

“I am sorry. I will find my way out…somehow.”

“Wait,” she said, “show me how to apply the ointment, and then I will show you out.”

Koldiar’s ears perked up, and a bit of a smile stained his face when he rushed to help her.

“A little here and a little there, and that should be all she needs.”

“What is this stuff? It stinks! Ugh!” Fonfon said shrilly before jumping off the large leaf she was lying on and then flying off in utter disgust.

“Well, it seems your medicine worked,” Echo said with a small smirk on her face. She continued, “But now it is time for you to leave. Do not worry, I can carry you out. It will be faster that way.”

But after something funny happened, not funny “ha ha” but funny weird, she tried to gather as much soul mana to change back into a dragon, but nothing happened. She tried relentlessly to change, but nothing was the conclusion she came to.

“Maybe we could possibly walk until you regain your strength,” Koldiar timidly suggested.

“Very well,” she said reluctantly, “stay close to me. This place can be dangerous for you!”

Before walking through the forest, Echo snatched two leaves off a loafed branch.

Handing Koldiar a leaf, he confusingly accepted, saying, “What is this for?”

“Eat it. The trees will think you are one of them and will not play tricks on you,” she said as she scarfed down the white starlike leaf.

“Well, that makes sense,” he sarcastically muddled to himself but ultimately swallowed it.
